Abstract

The first experiences and learning of children and the family bond they create can strongly influence their cognitive, emotional and psychological development. About that, the present work aimed to study what is the importance of the family and how it can contribute to child psychological development, since childhood, especially early childhood (a period that corresponds to 0 to 6 years) is a critical moment of identity and personality formation. To achieve this goal, basic bibliographic research was carried out to describe how child development occurs, define what psychological development is, define what family is, and finally, present what the family's contributions are. From this it was possible to discuss the theme by presenting the main theories of development and the history of family relationships covering their social and legal concepts and finally it was possible to relate them and present their appropriate contributions in addition to indicating what can be done and the way that should be done in order to contribute to the healthy development of children.
